About Blue Star Moms

The Blue Star Moms, Chapter 101 (established November 2001), is a support through service organization in the San Francisco East Bay area located in Danville, CA. We have members from all over Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. We are moms, joining together to share our pride, our devotion and our worries for our sons and daughters currently serving in all branches of the Armed Forces of the United States, and our sons and daughters who are now veterans. We first came together shortly after the terrorist's attacks on 9/11/2001. We are an official chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America, a group who formed during World War II.

HOW TO JOIN OUR CHAPTER

Membership is open to mothers or stepmothers who have sons and/or daughters currently serving, or who have been medically or honorably discharged from the five service branches of the United States, as well as the National Guard, Reserve and the Merchant Marine. History

After the attack on our country on 9/11/2001, three moms from San Ramon, CA, Patty Martin, Peggy Conklin and Nancy Ecker turned to one another for strength and support. Together they had 4 sons, ages 19 to 22, all serving in the U. S. Army. On that terrible day in September they knew no other families with loved ones in the military. Finding no support groups in Northern California, they reached out in their community. They organized their first meeting in November, 2001 at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Danville, CA. About thirty Moms from this area attended.

Since that time, they have become an official chapter of The Blue Star Mothers of America Inc., a national organization, and their membership has remained steady. They conduct casual meetings with most of their time devoted to sharing information about their military kids. They share what they have learned about the military, helping moms with questions from boot camp to deployment and beyond. On occasion they have guest speakers addressing issues of concern and interest to their members. These past years have brought us knowledge, empathy and friendships.

The Blue Star Moms is a non-partisan, non-political non-sectarian, non-discriminatory and non-profit organization. The military represents all aspects of America, as does our group.
